THE COLLEGE APPLICATION PROCESS

Most college applications will be done online and completed by mid-fall of your senior year. Below you will find a basic checklist for completing both online and paper applications.

Online Applications

  • Browse the college/university's website.
  • Read through all instructions.
  • Complete/submit application.
  • Completed Transcript Request Form. Please note, initial transcripts for applications to the University of Illinois and Northern Illinois University are self-reported. Transcripts from MSHS are not necessary for these schools until after acceptance is confirmed.
  • Pay application fees online, if applicable.
  • Print and deliver any forms to be completed by your counselor, teacher, or other reference.
  • Gather any required letters of recommendation and turn into Mrs. Shore along with transcript request form and any other paperwork required for the application.
  • Be patient as you wait for the college to process your application and make a decision.
  • Be aware that housing, financial aid, and scholarships unique to specific colleges typically require separate applications.

Paper Applications

  • Read through all application instructions.
  • Complete application.
  • Complete a Transcript Request Form.
  • Deliver any forms to be completed by your counselor, teacher, or other reference.
  • Include the applicant's Social Security Number on any checks and/or essays.
  • Turn in the completed application to Mrs. Shore along with any required letters of recommendation, application fees, and/or essays.
  • Be patient as you wait for the college to process your application and make a decision.
